No. 16 Beavs Tie No. 6 UCLA with Season-High Matching 197.275

LOS ANGELES. – In a back-and-forth affair at the Pauley Pavilion on Sunday afternoon, the No. 16 Oregon State gymnastics team ended in a 197.275 deadlock with UCLA in the Pac-12 opener for both teams.
"Our team showed a lot of grit tonight," head coach Tanya Chaplin said. "We stayed together as a team through all four rotations and I'm really proud of how our girls were able to match their performance on Friday with a short turnaround on the road."
The Beavs 197.275 was their highest on the road this season and the highest score in program history competing at UCLA.
Sophomore Jade Carey took home the all-around title with a 39.775 across the four events and now has 63 event titles and 14 all-around titles.
The Beavs put together their third-straight performance of 49.000 or higher on bars to open the meet with a 49.175, including a career-best 9.850 from freshman Francesca Caso.

Rotating to vault, the Beavs put together a 49.200 to trail UCLA 98.375-98.850 at the halfway point of the meet. Competing in the lineup for the first time, Natalie Briones put together a solid Yurchenko layout full for a 9.800, while Lauren Letzsch matched her career best with a 9.850. Returning to her home state, Sydney Gonzales nearly stuck her Yurchenko 1/2 on, 1/2 off, back pike for a 9.925 and new career high.

Starting the second half of the meet on floor, the Beavs came back with a vengeance, matching their season high on floor with a 49.500 to take the lead heading into the final rotation ahead 147.875-147.650. With a near flawless floor routine once again, Carey received a 10.000 from one judge for her 9.775.

Things got interested on the final rotation for OSU, who eventually finished the rotation with a 49.400. Gonzales received a 9.675 for her routine in the fourth spot. After discussion between the judges about the skills performed, her score looked to be bumped to a 9.875 but was ultimately given her original 9.675. Jenna Domingo received a 9.850 in the second spot for the Beavs. Following an inquiry by Chaplin on the start value of Domingo's routine, the senior was elevated to a 9.900 to end the meet knotted with the Bruins.
