Fetherstonhaugh, Moersdorf Close Weekend with Record Performances
April 15, 2023 | Women's Track & Field
LONG BEACH and AZUSA, Calif. – Grace Fetherstonhaugh and Anneke Moersdorf both broke school records to close a jam-packed weekend on a high note for Oregon State Track & Field.
Â
Fetherstonhaugh set her second school record of the outdoor season with a 4:11.00 in the 1,500 meters. The mark finished fourth at the Bryan Clay Invitational and ranked ninth in the country when factoring in results entering day. Kaylee Mitchell also broke the existing school record with a 4:13.48, which placed 16th.
Â
Moersdorf's 12.46m/40-10.5 leap in the triple jump reset her own school record, recorded last season at the Pac-12 Championships, by an inch and places her in contention for a regional berth. She placed third at the Beach Invitational just two days after competing in the heptathlon.
Â
Taylor Crockem and Keely McLaughlin recorded strong marks on the day in the shot put, both tossing further than 50 feet for the first time this season. McLaughlin's 15.31m/50-2.75 mark placed seventh and was just inches shy of her school record while Crockem placed eighth with a personal best of 15.30m/50-2.5. Crockem already held the second-best mark in school history.
Â
Jade Whitfield provided another one of the day's highlights, once again finishing with a discus throw longer than 57 meters at 57.05m/187-2. She was one of 12 throwers in the country to surpass that mark heading into Saturday's action. Whitfield's efforts placed third overall and second among collegians.
Â
Adael Scatena earned a second place result in the 400-meter hurdles with a 59.59 time, just .02 seconds off her OSU no. 7 mark from Thursday. She also posted the sixth-best 100-meter hurdles in school history with a 14.09 on Saturday, narrowly outpacing Moersdorf's heptathlon. Fellow vet Emma Nelson also picked up a top-five finish in the high jump. Her leap of 1.71m/5-7.25 placed fifth.
Â
Redshirt sophomore Paige Sefried notched her second personal best in three days, following up a PB in the 800 on Thursday with one in the 400 on Friday. Her 57.78 cut more than a second off her previous best.
Â
Scatena, Sefried, Jada Hurley and Taylor Weidinger followed up their OSU no. 2 time from the Bobcat Invite with another solid mark in SoCal. The 4x400-meter relay finished in 3:47.28, which would have been the third-fastest team in school history had they not just posted the second-best mark two weeks prior.
Â
Jillian Brown closed the evening and the weekend with a PB of 4:32.74 in the 1,500 meters.
Â
Up next, the Beavs have a week away from competition before hosting the OSU High Performance Meet on April 28-29 at the Whyte Track & Field Complex.
