Pitching, Late Offense Key Saturday Upset of Ducks
April 20, 2024 | Softball
EUGENE, Ore. – Late inning heroics from Charity Sevaaetasi and Madi Simon and a complete game shutout from Logan Hulon helped the Oregon State softball team upset 20th-ranked Oregon, 3-0, on Saturday evening.
Held off the hit column for the game's first 4.1 innings, the Beavers (18-24, 6-11 Pac-12) saw their offense spark with five knocks and three crossing home over the final 2.2 to secure the three-run win.

Breaking Elise Sokolosy's no-hit bid in the fifth, Madyson Clark slapped a single to short on a 1-0 count to try to start something before Paige Doerr pushed her up 60 feet with a single of her own to put pressure on the Ducks' pitcher. On the ensuing at-bat, Simon's groundout moved Clark and Doerr into scoring position before the Beavs got their breakthrough.
Pinch hitting for Savanah Whatley, Sevaaetasi drove in the two with a single to left on the first pitch of the at-bat to put the Beavers ahead.

Wanting to put additional pressure on the Ducks, the Beavers used one last effort in the seventh for some insurance for Hulon. Clark – who reached on an Oregon error – found third with two outs before Simon drove her home on a single to short to make it 3-0.
Faced with a bases-loaded situation in the home half of the fourth, the Beavs got out of a jam thanks to Eliana Gottlieb's catch just shy of the warning track in right to keep the Ducks off the board.
With another third complete Pac-12 game in the last four, Logan Hulon (5-9) fanned six and allowed just three hits for her first league shutout as a Beav.
Despite letting a pair of Ducks reach in the bottom of the sixth, Hulon kept them at bay as she retired the final four of the game, including a swinging strikeout to secure the rivalry win.
The rubber match of the Rivalry Series is set for tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. and can be seen on the Pac-12 Networks.
