Varsity Eight Earns Third-Consecutive Ranked Victory at Big Ten Invite
April 19, 2025 | Women's Rowing
SARASOTA, Fla. – Oregon State women's rowing competed in the 2025 Big Ten Invite over the weekend, a regatta which saw the varsity eight win one race while the second eight and second four also claimed second place finishes.
The two-day regatta started on Friday at 9:10 a.m. eastern, when the second varsity four finished in second place, just three seconds behind No. 6 Tennessee, finishing the course in 7:22.211. After a sixth-place finish by the 1V4 at 9:20, it took photo finishes to keep both eight boats out of the top-two, each finishing in third place by margins of less than one second.
In the second set of racing, which took place Friday afternoon, the second four and first four both finished in fourth place, which was immediately followed by yet another incredibly close race, as the 2V8 came in second place, less than one second behind Southern California.
Oregon State's lone victory of the weekend came soon after, as the varsity eight posted a 6:27.033 to finish ahead of Michigan State (6:32.687), Southern California (6:33.379), Clemson (6:33.829), Notre Dame (6:37.318) and Minnesota (6:37.608).
On Saturday, the first and second fours finished in sixth, the 2V8 in fourth and the 1V8 added another strong time, 6:32.538, to finish in third place.
The varsity eight's victory on Friday made it three-consecutive regattas with a win, all of which have come over ranked opponents after besting then-ranked No. 21 Gonzaga on March 21, then-ranked No. 24 Washington State on April 5, and No. 24 Southern California at the Big Ten Invite.
Dating back to the team's first head race of the fall season, OSU has now claimed at least one victory in every single regatta this year.
Oregon State women's rowing returns to action at home, hosting Southern California, San Diego and Sacramento State at Dexter Reservoir on May 3.
