CORVALLIS, Ore. – AC Froehlich and Jackie Matias were recognized as Pac-12 Players of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Â
Froehlich totaled 39 kills, averaging 4.88 per set, across two Oregon State victories last weekend. After a 14-kill, nine-dig performance in a sweep of Fresno State, the senior outside hitter exploded for 25 kills, averaging 5.0 per set, in the Beavers' five set home win against Utah State, adding six digs, an ace and coming within two kills of her career high, set in a five-set thriller against Washington State in September.
Â
A senior from Lafayette, La., Froehlich leads the conference in kills per set (4.03) and ranks third for points per set (4.50), while Tuesday's announcement was her second-consecutive weekly award and third overall this season.
Â
Matias played all eight sets across those two wins, averaging 11.63 assists per set, 93 in total. She started with 40 helpers, an average of 13.33 per set, to go with four digs and a kill in a sweep of Fresno State, before a 53-assist, 17-dig double-double against Utah State, her sixth double-double of the season.
Â
Originally from Honolulu, Hawaii, Matias' 10.26 assists per set leads the conference, and she's now up to four Pac-12 Setter of the Week awards, which is the most weekly awards in a single season since Mary-Kate Marshall was a five-time Freshman of the Week back in 2014.
Â
The pair now have seven combined Pac-12 player of the week honors, which is the highest team total since 2017. Tuesday's announcement is also the first time in program history that a pair of Beavers have been honored together in two or more different weeks in the same season, as both Froehlich (offensive) and Matias (setter) were previously recognized together back on Sept. 1.
Â
Beaver volleyball plays a pair of home matches this week, hosting Gonzaga (Oct. 29, 6 p.m.) and Colorado State. Ticke (Oct. 31, 12 p.m.). Tickets can be purchased by calling 800-GO-BEAVS (541-737-4455) or visiting Beav.es/VBTix.
