Butler Ties HR Record in Close Loss to Broncos
April 02, 2026 | Softball
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Jaeya Butler tied the Oregon State single-season home run record with her 17th big fly of the season but the Beavers came up one run short in a 6-5 road loss to Santa Clara.
The Broncos opened the scoring with a 2-0 first inning, scoring both on a two-out hit. They broke the game open in the bottom of the third with four consecutive hits bringing home four runs to make it 6-0, sending the Beavs to the bullpen for Haydn Milley.
OSU battled back in the fourth. The Beavers loaded the bases on two singles and a walk before Paige Bambarger drove in a run with a fielder's choice and Madison Weir knocked in another on a line drive single to left.
Butler's history-tying blast pulled the Beavs back within two in the fifth inning, scoring Jada Lewis after she led off the frame with a walk. The Beavers then loaded the bases and scored another run on a Weir walk to make it 6-5.
The final Beav threat came in the sixth inning with runners on first and second after a Butler single and Tristian Thompson walk but OSU was unable to capitalize. The Beavers went down in order in the seventh.
Kimberlee Aleman (2-9) was hit with the loss after allowing six runs - five earned - in 2.2 innings of work. Milley provided 3.1 innings of no-hit relief with only a walk allowing a runner to reach base.
The Beavers return to action on Friday against the Broncos. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
