May 07, 2026 | Softball
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – A sixth run eighth inning was the difference as Oregon State softball took down LMU on Thursday, winning 8-2 in extras at Smith Field.
Morgan Howey tallied three of the Beavers' 10 hits, including a game-tying solo shot in the second inning that brought her season total up to 11. One inning later, Jaeya Butler crushed her 23rd of the season to center field and tightened her hold on the program's single season home run and RBI record; Howey finished 3-4 with a walk, two RBI and two runs scored while Butler hit 1-4 with two runs and added a walk.
Amelia Streuber went to work in the middle innings of this one, taming the Lions' offense and holding them to two runs through seven innings, striking out two while allowing eight hits. The Tucscon, Ariz., native also posted a three-up, three-down fifth inning and limited LMU to no more than four hitters in the second, third, sixth and seventh innings.
Level at two runs apiece after seven, Howey, Mya Harrison and Rylei Trujillo all got on base early in the eighth inning. Genevieve Beacom then ignited the Beaver offense with a single to right that was followed by yet another RBI single, this time off the bat of Jada Lewis. A Butler walk and another LMU error off a ball hit by Tristian Thompson scored two more, before Howey came to the plate for the second time in the inning, driving an RBI single through the right side to make the advantage six runs.
Harrison was 1-4 with a double and Lewis was 2-5. Beacom's RBI was her first since hitting a two-run double against East Texas A&M on Feb. 27, while Camrynn Gordon (1-3) and Lici Campbell added hits as OSU out-hit LMU 10-8 in the game.
Holding a six-run lead, Haydn Milley pitched a perfect eighth inning, drawing a pair of fly outs and one ground out to secure the Beavers' 20th win of the season.
Oregon State softball has two more matchups with the Lions in this three-game series, facing off tomorrow at 2 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m.
