
Beavers Continue Action in So Cal

THE WEEKEND
• The Beavers will start the month of March at the San Diego Classic in San Diego, California from March 3-5.
• The Classic is co-hosted by San Diego State and San Diego. Games will be played at both sites during the weekend.
• Oregon State will face five different opponents during the three days, which include Miami (Ohio), UC Davis, McNeese State, Detroit Mercy and San Diego.

Friday, 4:30 pm at SDSU: Oregon State vs. UC Davis
Saturday, 10:30 am at USD: Oregon State vs. MCNeese State
Sunday, 9 am at USD: Detroit Mercy vs. Oregon State
Sunday, 11:30 am at USD: San Diego vs. Oregon State
SCOUTING THE REDHAWKS
• Miami (Ohio) enters the Classic 5-8 after being shutout in the Carolina Classic last weekend.
• The Redhawks suffered losses to Marshall, North Carolina, Hampton and Towson.
• Miami was tabbed to finish third in the MAC in 2017 after winning the MAC Tournament championship last season. They were voted to place third behind defending regular season champion Kent State and Ohio.
• The Redhawks returns eight offensive starters from the 2016 squad, including All-MAC honorees shortstop Michaela Schlattman, first baseman Johniann Wahl and catcher Lauren Anderson.
• Miami holds a .252 batting average, while Michaela Schlattman leads the team with a .368 mark and three home runs.Â
• Johniann Wahl also adds to the offense with five homer and 10 RBI.
• Kelsey Fredericks and Shannon Hohman have split innings in the circle. Fredericks has appeared in 11 games giving up 31 runs, while Hohman has showed in 10 games and tallied 20 runs.
• Head coach for the Redhawks is Clarisa Crowell in her 5th season.
• The Beavers and the Redhawks will meet for the first time on Friday.Â
SCOUTING THE AGGIES
• UC Davis will enter the week 5-8 after getting swept in five games last week at the Bulldog Classic.
• The Aggies will host Sacramento State Wednesday night before heading to the San Diego Classic.
• Brianna Warner lead the Aggies with a .372 batting average and stealing four bases on five attempts.
• Taylor Peters also is in the stealing business, stealing five of six attempts.
• The Aggies have only hit two home runs so far this season, each by Peters and Alexis Carney.Â
• Katie Kibby has started the majority of the games in the circle for the Aggies, holding a 4-2 record in 42 1/3 innings.Â
• Head coach for the Aggies is Erin Thorpe in her third season.
• The Beavers and Aggies will meet for the ninth time with Oregon State recording a win in every contest since first meeting in 2013.
SCOUTING THE COWGIRLS
• McNeese State will enter the weekend 8-9 after recording three straight wins last week at the Louisiana Tech Classic and against South Alabama.
• The Cowgirls will face a slough of opponents  including BYU, San Diego State, San Jose State and UC Davis.
• McNeese State earned the Southland Conference regular season, tournament champions and lone league representative at last year's NCAA Tournament.
• Morgan Catron leads the squad with a .400 batting average and 22 hits, including 21 RBI and slugging .745. She also was named Southland's Hitter of the Week after hitting .500 and two home runs.
• Alexsandra Flores holds 3-2 record in the circle, throwing 26 innings in eight appearances. Rachel Smith has hurled the majority of the innings with 45 innings and carrying a 2.49 ERA.
• Head coach for the Cowgirls is James Landreneau in his first season.
• The Beavers and Cowgirls will meet for the third time with McNeese State holding a 2-1 record winning the last match up in 2014.
SCOUTING THE TITANS
• Detroit Mercy enters the San Diego Classic with a 3-7 record after finishing the Madeira Beach Tournament in Madeira Beach, Florida 1-4 last weekend.
• The Titans will also play four opponents before playing the Beavers on Sunday. They will play BYU, San Diego, UC Davis and San Jose State
• Detroit has been outscored 47-36 in its 10 games so far this season.
• Grace Schmeiser leads the squad with a .409 batting average, while Savvy Ferstle has a team-high seven RBI and two home runs.
• Liz Murphy leads the team with a 1.98 ERA in eight games, holding a 3-3 record and four complete games.
• Head coach for the Titans is John Conway in his 3rd season.
• The Beavers and Detroit Mercy will meet for the first in program history.
SCOUTING THE TOREROS
• San Diego will enter the weekend 3-5 after having an off-week last week. The Toreros were last at the  Mary Nutter Classic and posted a 1-2 record.
• The Toreros will play Detroit Mercy, Boston and UC Davis before playing OSU on Sunday morning.
• USD's opponents have outscored them 55-38 so far this season.
• Taylor Spence leads the team with a .423 batting average and 11 hits.
• Megan Sabbatini has started the majority of the games in the circle, holding a 3-4 record and a 5.64 ERA in 36 innings pitched.
• Head coach for the Toreros is Melissa McElvain in her 16th season.
• The Beavers and San Diego will meet for the 14th time in program history.
FOLLOW BERG
• Head coach Laura Berg is in her fifth season.
• Has guided the Beavers to two NCAA Tournament appearances.
• Holds a 116-106-1 overall record and 28-65 in Pac-12 games.
LOOKING AHEAD
• Following this weekend's action at the San Diego Classic, the Oregon State softball team will finish its 2017 non-conference slate with a trip to Fresno, Calif., from March 10-12 for the Fresno State Classic.
• The Beavers opponents that weekend include Fresno State and Sacramento State. The Beavers will play both teams twice.
• Oregon State will rematch with the Hornets after playing them on Feb. 9 at the Paradise Classic in Hawai'i. The Beavs won, 6-3.
