April 15, 2018 | Softball
STANFORD, Calif. – Missy Nunes capped off a great weekend with a stellar performance on Sunday as the Oregon State softball team completed the sweep of Stanford with a 12-1 win at Boyd & Jill Smith Family Stadium.
The Beavers improve to 24-17 overall and 7-8 in Pacific-12 Conference play. Meanwhile, Stanford falls to 22-19 overall and 2-10 in conference action.
Oregon State's bats came alive in the final game as the Beavers combined for 14 hits. Nunes went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with five RBI and a home run. Camryn Ybarra contributed three RBI going 2-for-4 at the plate.
Mariah Mazon made her 16th start of the year and earned her 13th complete game in a one run three hit outing. Mazon recorded three strikeouts putting her to a team-best 106 on the season.
Scoreless after one the Beavers put on a clinic in the second inning scoring six runs on seven hits. Ybarra drove in the first two runs after singling to left center field scoring Nunes and Michelle Sass.
Kayleen Shafer followed with an RBI single pushing the lead to 3-0. With two outs Oregon State rallied for three more runs.
Hope Brandner found herself at the plate with bases loaded hitting an infield RBI single. Hitting for the second time in the same inning Nunes fired a two RBI single to center field giving the Beavers control of the game.
OSU added four more runs in the fourth behind a three-run homer from Nunes, her sixth of the season and second on the weekend.
A mid-inning pitching change for Stanford couldn't stop the Beavers offense. Michelle Sass took the first pitch she saw and drove it down the left field line for a double and two batters later Shafer hit an RBI single giving Oregon State a 10-0 lead.
Stanford scored their only run of the game in the bottom half of the fourth frame ending the shutout hopes for Mazon.
Ybarra's two RBI double added two more runs in the fifth inning for the Beavers ending the game early, 12-1.
