Beavers Fall to No. 10 Arizona
April 27, 2018 | Softball
TUCSON, Ariz. – The Oregon State softball team fell to No. 10 Arizona 9-0 Friday evening in the series-opener in Tucson, Ariz.
Senior McKenna Arriola reached base twice in the contest, knocking a hit to right field in the fourth and walking in the first.
Mariah Mazon struck out four batters as the starting pitcher. Meehra Nelson struck out the only hitter she face in the contest.
The Wildcats took the lead early, taking advantage of a pair of Oregon State errors to plate a run in the first. Arizona would double their advantage with a solo home run in the second inning.
It looked like the Wildcats might add to the lead in the third, as they loaded the bases with none out, but Mazon retired three-straight batters, including two by strikeout, to get the Beavers out of the jam. Arizona would tack on seven more in the fourth to close out the five-inning victory.
Wildcat pitcher Taylor McQuillan went the whole way for Arizona, improving her record to 21-9 on the season.
The Beavers will remain in Tucson for game two of the three-game set, Saturday at 6 p.m.
