Beavers Drop Game 2 at No. 10 Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Oregon State softball team matched No. 10 Arizona on hits, but the Wildcats came away with a 6-2 victory in game two of the three-game set Saturday evening in Tucson.
The Beavers spread the hits around, as Shelby Weeks, McKenna Arriola, Hope Brandner, Alysha Everett, Michelle Sass, Camryn Ybarra and Kayleen Shafer each recorded a single in the contest. Ybarra and Shafer both tallied RBIs, while Everett and Nunes scored the Beavers' two runs.
Mariah Mazon allowed one hit and one run in three innings of relief, striking out three. Both teams stranded eight runners in the contest.
The Wildcats got on the board in the top of the first, capitalizing in a pair of Oregon State errors to plate the game's opening run. The Beavers answered in the second, loading the bases on back-to-back singles from Brandner and Everett, followed by a walk by Nunes. Ybarra came through with an RBI single, before Shafer was hit by a pitch to put Oregon State up 2-1.
Arizona bounced back in the bottom of the second, retaking the advantage with three runs in the frame. The Wildcats added another in the third inning to go ahead by three. The Beavers threatened in the fourth with singles from Michelle Sass and Shafer, but Arizona was able to work out of the jam. Oregon State put Arriola and Brandner on base again in the fifth, but could not convert on the opportunity.
Arizona added its sixth run on a solo shot in the sixth inning. The Beavers again looked to battle back in the seventh, as Weeks opened the frame with a single, but the right-fielder was stranded, as the Wildcats took the win by four.
The Beavers will close out their three-game series vs Arizona on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
