Beavers Win Both at Portland State

Hillsboro, Ore. – Oregon State takes both games at Portland State highlighted by sophomore Camryn Ybarra hitting her first homerun of the season and senior Meehra Nelson striking out 11 batters.
Shelby Weeks led the Beavers with four hits and three RBIs between the two games. Jessica Garcia, Maia Rader, Michelle Sass and Ybarra each added two, while Lovie Lopez, Missy Nunes and Kayleen Shafer each recorded one as the Beavers improve to 19-13 on the season.
GAME ONE
Weeks started the game with a single followed by her 11th stolen base of the season. Lopez hit one hard right at the first baseman and was able to get a single out of it while advancing Weeks to third. Lopez stole second to put runners on second and third for Frankie Hammoude who hit a sac fly to right field that scored Weeks. Ybarra finished the inning with a stand-up double that score Lopez, giving the Beavers an early 2-0 lead.
Portland State put one run on the board in the third and another in the fifth to even the score at 2-2.
The Beavers struck back when Nunes hit a double down the right field line in the top of the sixth inning. Ybarra followed this by reaching on an error from the Vikings shortstop that allowed Nunes to score.
OSU added one more run in the seventh after Sass led off with a double down the left-field line. Rader advanced her to third to allow Garcia to hit a sac fly to left field to score Sass.
Mariah Mazon went to work in the circle for the Beavers recording her 12th complete game on the season and improves to 10-8. Mazon finished with seven strikeouts and no walks in the Beaver's 4-2 victory.
GAME TWO
Ybarra wasted no time putting the Beavers on the board in the second game as she hit a solo homerun over the center field fence in the top of the first inning.
The Beavers got going again in the third after Weeks singled to the Vikings shortstop and Lopez walked. Weeks stole her 55th career base to put herself at third and Lopez at second when Ybarra hit a sac fly to left field that scored Weeks.
OSU went on another hitting spree in the fifth when Rader hit a single into center field and Garcia followed this with a single through the right side that advanced Rader to third. Weeks hit a triple into center field scoring both Rader and Garcia. Lopez recorded a RBI scoring Weeks and extending the Beavers lead to 5-0.
Oregon State put the final touches on the game in the sixth inning when Sass walked, and Rader hit her second triple of the season to score Sass. Garcia singled up the middle scoring Rader and Weeks followed that with a double that scored Garcia.
Nelson showed her experience from the circle striking out the first five batters she faced before finishing with 11 total strikeouts. Nelson threw her sixth complete game and third solo shutout this season to improve to 6-4 on the season as the Beavers captured an 8-0 victory in six innings.
