CORVALLIS – Jessica Garcia's RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning sent the Oregon State softball team to a 2-1 win over Utah Thursday night at the OSU Softball Complex.
Maia Rader walked, moved to second on a wild pitch and was joined on base by Fallon Molnar, pinch hitting for Ashton Phillips, to also draw a walk. Shelby Weeks knocked a hard hit single to Utah's second baseman to load the bases for Garcia to punch a single into shallow right-center field for the win.
The win improved the Beavers to a 25-18 overall record and 7-13 record in Pacific-12 Conference action. The Beavers will enter Friday's matchup on a four-game win streak. Utah, meanwhile, dropped to 18-34 overall and 6-16 in Pac-12 play.
Oregon State started things off in the third inning when Phillips walks and Weeks recorded a single up the middle. Garcia recorded a sac bunt to put Phillips and Weeks on second and third to allow Frankie Hammoude a RBI single to the left side scoring Phillips.
Utah tied things up in the sixth with a solo-homer by Hailey Hilburn.
Sophomore Mariah Mazon started for the Beavers and picked up her 16th win. Mazon struck out six batters over the course of seven innings for her 19th complete game on the season.
