MEET THE VISITORS
Seattle U's arrival brings a familiar foe for head coach Scott Rueck as Suzy Barcomb heads to Gill Coliseum for the first time. The two squared off several times a year as Northwest Conference coaches when Rueck was at George Fox and Barcomb led the team at Puget Sound. The visitors will be opening their season against the Beavs after going 11-19 last season and 6-12 in the WAC. Like the Beavers, Seattle U has a roster made up primarily of newcomers with eight new Redhawks on the squad, including Gatorade Washington Girls Basketball Player of the Year Julianna Walker.
OWNING THE BOARDS
Oregon State has been one of the top rebounding teams in the Pac-12 over the last five seasons, leading the league in rebounding margin. In four of those five years (from 2017-18 to 2020-21), the Beavers also had at least one player rank in the top three in the conference in rebounds per game. Oregon State outrebounded Hawai'i 31-26 in its season-opening game on Monday.
DEVELOPING IN THE POST
Jelena Mitrovic has experienced exponential growth since coming to Corvallis nearly four years ago. The redshirt sophomore sat all of her first season at Oregon State before playing sparingly as a redshirt freshman. She earned spot in the rotation last season and gained a starting spot in the WNIT. Mitrovic rewarded coaches' faith by averaging 13.5 points and 8 rebounds per game while shooting 70.6% from the field during the WNIT run.
MICROWAVE SCORER
After a year of development behind the Ellie Mack, sophomore AJ Marotte is ready to take on a bigger role in 2022-23. The Texan scored into double-digits in two of her first three collegiate games last season and totaled a team-high 16 points in Monday's win over Hawai'i.
