
Oregon State Makes Way to Mary Nutter

CORVALLIS, Ore. -- The Oregon State softball team will continue the 2023 season with their next weekend of play, heading south to the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, taking place in Cathedral City, California.Â
For the first time this season, the Beavers will play in the familiarity of the Pacific Time Zone.Â
Friday, February 24
Oregon State vs. Missouri – 3:30 p.m.Â
Oregon State vs. CSUN – 6 p.m.Â
Saturday, February 25
Oregon State vs. Cal State Fullerton - 10 a.m.
Oregon State vs. Ohio State - 12:30 p.m.
Sunday, February 25
Oregon State vs. Iowa - 9 a.m.
SERIES OUTLOOK:
• OSU has matched up with all five at least once since the 2020 season, including Ohio State - who the Beavs met in the Knoxville (Tenn.) Regional on the way to the WCWS.
• During the Laura Berg era, the Beavs are at .500 or better  against each team on the schedule this week.
• OSU faced Iowa, CSUN and Ohio State in the 2022 season.Â
• The Beavs will play Cal State Fulleron for the first time since the 2021 campaign, when OSU took a 11-0, run-rule win at the Easton Invitational.Â
• Missouri, the second SEC opponent on the schedule this month, is a side that OSU has not seen since the shortened 2020 season. The Tigers took a 5-4 win in nine innings in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.Â
SECOND WEEKEND LOOKBACK:
• OSU won a pair of games in the Littlewood Classic in ArizonaÂ
• Sarah Haendiges and Tarni Stepto both racked up Ks in their wins over the weekend. Stepto fanned eight and Haendiges retired six via the punchout.
FIRST-YEAR FIREPOWER:
• Kaiea Higa has posted a .318 batting average through nine games of action. She's slugged a pair of homers and driven in six runs.
• Morgan Howey hit her first collegiate homer in the win over Grand Canyon. In nine games, she's hit .333 at the dish.
• This duo clubbed solo homers to lead off innings three and four, respectively, in the Sunday contest.Â
• Both blasts came on the second pitch of the at-bat.
• Higa and Howey additionally have two of the best averages on the team through the first two weeks of the season.Â
•Higa's two round-trippers are tied for the most on the Beavers with Frankie Hammoude.Â

FROM THE PLATE:
• Madi Simon's .435 average at the dish leads the Beavs, along with her hits. Her 21 times on base is another benchmark for the Beavers.
• Simon's trio of doubles also leads the OSU squad.
• Frankie Hammoude hasn't been a stranger on the basepaths herself. The Oakland, Calif., native leads the team in bases-on-balls (12) and is deadlocked with Higa for home runs (2).
BUSY BEAVERS ON THE BASEPATHS:
• Oregon State has been quite successful in stealing attempts this season.Â
• As a team, they've successfully swiped a bag 7-of-8 (.875) times.
• Kristalyn Romulo leads with a perfect 2-for-2 line.
