Beavers Drop Dawgs, Start Year 2-0
August 24, 2025 | Men's Soccer
CORVALLIS – The Oregon State men's soccer team claimed a big 2-1 win over Washington Sunday evening at Paul Lorenz Field. With the win, the Beavers move to 2-0 on the season, after opening the year with a victory over UC Santa Barbara on Thursday.
Fran Cortijo recorded his first goal of the season in the contest, opening the scoring early on. Paul Fecteau netted the second for Oregon State, getting on the scoresheet for the first time in his collegiate career.
Iker Carbonell Garcia recorded assists on both goals, bringing his season total to four through two games. Fabian Straudi tallied one assist, as he moved into a tie for fourth on OSU's career assists list.
The Beavers wasted little time opening the scoring, as Cortijo found the net off a spilled cross from the Washington keeper less than seven minutes into the match. Oregon State had back-to-back chances to net a second in the 20th minute, but Arnau Farnos curled his shot just outside the post and Nico Nee had his attempt saved from point-blank range.
John Nicolson made a big save in the 26th minute, sliding in to stop a shot from within the six-yard box. Straudi forced a save in the 37th, before Fectau scored his first collegiate goal to send the Beavers to the break up 2-0.
Washington pulled one back in the 53rd minute to bring the score to 2-1. Farnos had back-to-back scoring chances shortly thereafter, but both just missed the target. The Huskies pushed forward looking for an equalizer, but Oregon State claimed the victory.
Nicolson had another strong game in net, and has allowed just one goal through two games to start the season.
The Beavers will be back in action this week for a pair of marquee road matchups, as they face Notre Dame Thursday and No. 11 Indiana Sunday.
