WHEN IT MATTERS MOST
When Oregon State defeated Gonzaga last week, it used a dominant 15-6 fifth set to win 3-2. The Beavers are no strangers to long matches this season, however, going four or more sets in nine matches and posting a combined 7-2 record that improves to a perfect 4-0 when playing five, and that includes a shootout against Washington State to open conference play that saw the final frame finish 29-27. The team has also gone to five in two of its last three matchups, defeating Utah State on Oct. 24 and GU Oct. 29; in total OSU has out-scored opponents 74-56 this season in the fifth set.
Â
SUCCESSFUL SERVES
Isabel Bertelsen's success from the service line has been key to the Beavers this season. Entering this weekend's matches as the team leader in total aces (30) and aces per set (0.39), she ranks fifth and third in the conference, respectively, and has recorded two or more seven times, four-plus in three matches, and tallied a season high eight in a sweep of Seattle U back on Sept. 5. Originally from Orlando, Fla., Bertelsen is within two aces of a top 10 single season mark in for a freshman in program history, with Christine Camp (1989) and Lisa Madrid (1985) sitting in a tie at ninth place with 32.
Â
KILLING IT
Through 21 matches and 76 sets played, Oregon State boasts the one of the top offenses in the Pac-12, averaging 13.51 kills per set that is tied with Colorado State for the top mark in the conference. Additionally, the Beavers have the highest single match kill total of any team this season, finishing with 82 in that barn burner against Washington State earlier in the year. With a combined 127 against Gonzaga and CSU - totals of 57 and 41, respectively - the team's performance last weekend was the second-highest kill total in a two match stretch this season, trailing just Sept. 26 versus WSU and Oct. 1 against Texas State, when the team had 82 and 57 for a total of 139.
Â
BLOCK PARTY
The Beavers dominated at the net against Gonzaga, recording a season-high 16 blocks that featured a career-high eight from Taylor Treahy. In fact, Thursday's block party was the highest total in the Lindsey Behonick era and most since finishing with 17 in a road match at Utah on Nov. 10, 2022, and just the 10th time in the last 10 years that a Beaver volleyball team has finished with at least 16 in a single match.
Â
TELA'S TAKEOVER
Taray Tela took over in that win over Gonzaga, posting 14 kills and a career-best eight blocks while hitting .480. She had four blocks and four kills in just the third set alone, which helped the team regain a 2-1 advantage in the match, which came on the heels of a four kill performance in the second. Originally from Provo, Utah, Tela has been fantastic as a sophomore, ranking second in the Pac-12 with a .389 hitting percentage while totaling 154 kills (2.14/set) and 65 blocks (0.90/set).
Â
MISCELLANEOUS NOTES
- OSU won its first matchup against Utah State, defeating the Aggies in five sets at Gill Coliseum, while also claiming victory in the team's last contest against Boise State, defeating the Broncos in three sets on Sept. 6, 2025. Wednesday's meeting is the first for OSU and Boise State since the Broncos officially joined the Pac-12.
Â
