CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State will look to bounce back from a season-opening defeat on Sunday when it welcomes Eastern Washington to Gill Coliseum.
The Beavers had bright spots in their season-opening loss including the play of Taylor Young, whose 22 points led OSU, and posts Evelini Smith and Lara Alonso-Basurto, who combined for 15 points and 15 rebounds.
Oregon State owns a 10-3 lead in the all-time series against EWU, including a perfect 5-0 record under Scott Rueck and a 7-0 mark at home. The last matchup came in the first round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament. The Beavers won 73-51.

The Beavers thrive on creating low-percentage looks inside the arc. In Rueck's 16 seasons at the helm, OSU ranked in the top-10 of opponent two-point percentage eight times and in the top-25 14 times. Last season, the Beavs were exactly 25th (40.8%). Combine that with a low free-throw rate - OSU consistently ranks among the teams with the fewest fouls nationally - and it's easy to understand why teams struggle to find easy points against Oregon State.
THE ST. MARY'S PIPELINE
Between Ali Gibson (2011-15) and Kat Tudor (2016-20), Scott Rueck's teams have benefitted from St. Mary's High School graduates over eight years of his tenure. Evelini Smith is the latest St. Mary's (Stockton, Calif.) grad to make the trip to Corvallis. The freshman post is a physical presence in the post and played seven years of tackle football growing up.
HOW CAN SHE ASSIST YOU
Shuler is among the nation's most consistent distributors. The Gresham, Oregon product was one of just 14 players nationally to hand out five-or-more assists in 23 or more games last season. Her 34 games with 5+ assists over the last two years ranks 24th nationally. She was one dime shy of the school record with 14 against Long Beach State and was one of just 10 players nationally with at least 14 assists in a game last season.
