Thompson Hits Grand Slam in Win Over Long Beach State
February 22, 2026 | Softball
CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – Tristian Thompson's third inning grand slam was the difference in a 6-2 win over Long Beach State on Sunday at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. With the win, OSU finishes the weekend 4-2 and moves to 8-8 this season.
Thompson's grand slam, the Beavers' first of the season, helped her to a team-high four RBI as the Waco, Texas, native finished 2-3 with one run scored, and she's now up to five home runs and 16 RBI this season. Finding her power in the back half of the tournament, Thompson has now homered in two of her last three appearances.
Mya Harrison finished 2-3 with an RBI, opening the game's scoring with a single in the third inning, while Jada Lewis was 2-4 with an RBI single in the sixth that put the Beavers up by four. Camrynn Gordon was 2-3 with a run scored to cap a weekend where she hit .727 and Jaeya Butler finished 1-3.
Two days after throwing one inning in her Oregon State debut, Haydn Milley earned her first start as a Beav, allowing one hit and striking out four of the 10 batters she faced across three innings pitched. Bailey Murray came on in relief just one day after throwing a five inning no hitter against Bethune-Cookman and struck out three in four innings of work.
The Beavers took a big lead after Harrison's third inning single and Thompson's grand slam, but LBSU battled back with runs in the fourth and fifth. After Lewis made it 6-2 with her hit, Beach responded by loading the bases in the sixth inning, but Murray got out of the jam before sitting them down in order in the seventh.
Beaver softball returns to action next weekend in Fullerton, Calif., competing in the Judi Garman Classic hosted by California State Fullerton.
