Butler Breaks Single Season RBI Record in Loss to Saint Mary’s
April 17, 2026 | Softball
MORAGA, Calif. – Jaeya Butler drove in her 51st RBI of the season to break the program's single season record as Oregon State softball (17-27, 5-5 WCC) fell, 5-3, to Saint Mary's on Friday.
Butler, who entered the game with 49 runs batted in this season, hit 2-3 with a walk, run scored and two RBI against the Gaels, setting the record with a fifth inning solo shot to right center after driving in a run with an opposite field single in the second. The Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., native has been incredible as a junior, breaking the program's single season home run record last weekend against Pacific and becoming the first player in Oregon State history to hit 20 home runs in a season with her long ball Friday.
Madison Weir smashed her third home run of the season early in this one, putting a 3-2 pitch over the wall in left field to tie the game at one apiece in the top of the second inning. For Weir, the deep shot was her third of the season and puts her at 12 RBI, finishing the game 2-3.
Camrynn Gordon was 1-1 with a stolen base while Tristian Thompson hit 1-3 and was hit by a pitch in the first inning. Alliyah Rodriguez finished the game with a run scored as Lici Campbell's two walks helped the Beavers to eight in the matchup, which is the second most in a single game this season and most against a West Coast Conference opponent.
Bailey Murray started in the circle and threw her fourth complete game of the year, allowing six hits and four earned runs while striking out three of the 28 batters she faced.
After the Gaels took a one run lead in the first, OSU took an advantage in the second thanks to Weir's home run and Butler's single. SMC responded with two in the third but Butler's fifth inning blast tied the game before the hosts took the 5-3 lead in the fifth on an error.
Game two of this weekend series begins at 1 p.m. Saturday; after a Sunday finale and midweek against Oregon slated for April 22, the team returns home to face Seattle U April 24-26.
