Beavers Off to Utah for Five

CORVALLIS, Ore. -- The Oregon State softball team will wrap up nonconference action with the Utah Tech Trailblazer Tournament, slated for a Thursday start and Saturday conclusion.Â
Last week, the Beavers (7-8) completed a winning weekend by taking three of five in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, including a walkoff upset of No. 21 Missouri and finishing it with a 2-1 win over Iowa.Â

SERIES OUTLOOK:
• Oregon State will close nonconference action with the Utah Tech Trailblazer Tournament this weekend from St. George, Utah. The Beavers will match up with BYU, Utah Valley, hosts Utah Tech, Idaho State and UNLV.
• The event will open with the season's first rematch as OSU will meet BYU for the second consecutive month following a 3-2 setback to the Cougars in the Littlewood Classic in Tempe, Arizona.
THIRD WEEKEND LOOKBACK:
• OSU left California with a 3-2 record at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.Â
• Game 1 saw the Beavs take down No. 21 Missouri with late-game heroics. Down 2-0 late, OSU came back to upset the Tigers, 3-2. Frankie Hammoude's solo homer to center lit the fuse for the comeback. Abby Doerr's sacrifice brought Eliana Gottlieb home to tie it before Morgan Howey's single to left drove in Jade Soto for the winning run.
• OSU kept the momentum for game two in the Nutter Classic in a 5-1 win over CSUN. Doerr's hot bat accounted for all the runs as she launched a pair of homers - solo and grand slam - for her first in an OSU uniform.
•Ending it on a high note, OSU dispatched Iowa by a 2-1 margin in the Sunday showdown to clinch a winning record for the weekend. Tarni Stepto pitched four shutout, hitless frames and retired 12 of the last 13 she faced.
FROM THE PLATE:
• The Beavers have slugged 10 homers so far this season.
• Hammoude's three leads the team while a trio - Abby Doerr, Kaiea Higa and Madi Simon - have two apiece.
• Doerr's eight RBI lead the Beavs in the category, thanks to her five in the CSUN matchup.
FROM THE CIRCLE:
• OSU will have a pair return from the 2022 WCWS squad: Tarni Stepto and Sarah Haendiges.
• This duo each have fanned 30 through three weeks.
• Stepto has held opposing batters to just a .188 average at the plate after nine appearances.
BUSY BEAVERS ON THE BASEPATHS:
• Oregon State has been quite successful in stealing attempts this season.Â
• As a team, they've successfully swiped a bag 80% of the time.
• Kristalyn Romulo leads with a perfect 3-for-3 line.
