CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – The Oregon State softball team split the results on the opening day of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, falling to #7 Tennessee and defeating CSUN.

Game 1: #7 Tennessee 10, OSU 0 (6 innings)

The seventh-ranked Lady Vols used 14 hits to put up 10 runs on the Beavers in the opening game of the tournament.

Oregon State's bats were quited by UT's Erin Nuwer, who held the Beavers to just a pair of hits. Logan Hulon was charged with the loss after giving up all 10 of the Lady Vols' runs on the 14 hits. Making her collegiate debut in the sixth, Elizabeth Phillips recorded her first strikeout to end a Tennessee threat.

Game 2: Oregon State 1, CSUN 0

In the second game of the day, the Beaver offense finally got going and snapped a losing skid with a walkoff to seal the 1-0 win over the Matadors.

Samantha Gutierrez's double to centerfield drove in Isabella Valdez to end the game in the bottom of the seventh. The final stanza's offense was off to a quick start when Tristian Thompson knocked a single toward second and then was replaced on the bag by Valdez. In the ensuing at-bat, Morgan Howey pushed Valdez into scoring position before Gutierrez drove her home.

Jaeya Butler, Lici Campbell and Jada Lewis also tallied hits for the Beavers.

Throwing the whole game and keeping CSUN off the board, Ellie Garcia fanned five but allowed four hits and surrendered a walk.

Oregon State will meet UCSB tomorrow night, at 8:30 p.m., as they continue action at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. The game will stream exclusively on FloSoftball.
