Beavers Drop Home Opener
March 18, 2025 | Softball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Despite late offense, the Oregon State softball team dropped its home opener to Rutgers on Tuesday night by a 4-2 score.
After cutting the Scarlet Knight lead in half from four, the Beavers (11-13) placed two runners – including one in scoring position – in the seventh but came up empty handed.
Rutgers did their damage across three innings – scoring one in each of the third and fifth innings and put up a pair in the fourth.
Tristian Thompson's solo home run in the fifth inning highlighted the Oregon State offense. Jada Lewis led the OSU effort with two hits while Samantha Gutierrez, Morgan Howey and Thompson each tallied one.
Ellie Garcia – who tossed 4.1 frames – was charged with the loss. The senior allowed all four Rutgers runs on nine hits and two walks but struck out five. Appearing in relief, Logan Hulon threw the remaining 2.1 innings, struck out five but walked one and gave up a pair of hits.
Oregon State will head back on the road for a series at Montana this weekend. First pitch of the opener on Friday is set for 2 p.m. PT and can be seen on ESPN+.
