Hulon's 12 Ks Leads Beavs to Series-Opening Win

MISSOULA, Mont. – Behind a career-best 12 strikeouts from Logan Hulon, Oregon State bounced back from the midweek and took the series opener from Montana by a 5-3 score on Friday afternoon.
The Oregon State (12-13) provided Hulon with early run support with four runs in the third inning, highlighted by a three-run home run off the bat of Lici Campbell.
Two frames later with two outs, Samantha Gutierrez sent a ball back up the middle and brought Jaeya Butler home for the 5-0 lead.
After being held off the scoreboard for the contest's first 6.0, the Grizzlies' offense came alive in the seventh and put up three to break up the shutout bid from Hulon.
In the circle, Hulon made her presence known early with five strikeouts in her first 3.0 innings of work and hit the six-strikeout mark after the fourth to pick up the win. She complemented her strikeouts with no walks but did surrender the three Grizzly runs in the seventh.
Eight of the nine Beavers registered at least one of the team's 11 combined hits and a trio – Jaeya Butler, Gutierrez and Morgan Howey – each collected a pair. With her third inning home run, Campbell paced the offense in RBI and Gutierrez followed with one.
Oregon State will continue the series against Montana tomorrow with a first pitch set for noon PT. ESPN+ will have a stream of the action.
