Gutierrez's 4-for-4 Day Helps Secure Series for Beavs over Montana
March 22, 2025 | Softball
MISSOULA, Mont. – Samantha Gutierrez's career-best four hits led to the Beavers clinching the series over Montana on Saturday with a 3-2 win.
Oregon State (13-13) took two leads that were matched by the Grizzlies but got one that stuck in the seventh.
Gutierrez's solo home run in the first to left field put the Beavers on the board first in a back-and-forth game. Oregon State and Montana traded one-run innings in the first and sixth before the Beavers plated one more in the ninth and held off the Grizzlies.
The Beavers put up 10 hits, paced by Gutierrez's four and Tristian Thompson's three while Jaeya Butler, Nicole Donahue and Morgan Howey all added one. The trio of Donahue, Gutierrez and Thompson all drove in one run apiece to highlight the scoring.
Gutierrez's four hits is a single-game career best, it surpassed a three-hit day (achieved twice) but most recently last March when she competed for Eastern New Mexico.
Ellie Garcia went the distance – going all 7.0 – and picked up the win. The Chino, California, native allowed the two runs on four hits but fanned four.
Oregon State will continue the series against Montana tomorrow with a first pitch set for 10 a.m. PT. ESPN+ will have a stream of the action.
