Feb. 14: North Dakota / 4:30 p.m. / SDSU Softball Complex / Live Stats
Feb. 14: San Diego State / 7 p.m. / SDSU Softball Complex / Live Stats / Stream
Feb. 15: San Diego State / 12:30 p.m. / SDSU Softball Complex / Live Stats
STREUBER'S STRONG START:
Amelia Streuber made an instant impact in her collegiate debut against Utah Tech, finishing with four hits allowed, one earned run and four strikeouts across 5.1 innings of work. The next day, Streuber was back in the circle and back to dealing, as the freshman threw a complete game shutout in a 4-0 win over UC Santa Barbara. With two other appearances during the opening weekend of play, Streuber finished with a 3.32 ERA and five strikeouts across 12.2 innings pitched.
HERE COMES THE BOOM:
Power was the name of the game for OSU's offense last weekend as the Beavers hit eight home runs in five games. Jaeya Butler led the way with four while Paige Bambarger, Morgan Howey, Jada Lewis and Tristian Thompson each hit one out of the park, while the Beaver rotation allowed four long balls to give the Beavers an 8-4 advantage in that category.
Butler is one of 14 athletes across the country with at least four home runs during the opening weekend of play and nobody across the country has more than five. She also finished with a .375 average while driving in seven runs and scoring six times.
HANGING WITH THE BEST:
OSU matched up with No. 7 UCLA on Saturday in Irvine, Calif., and made some early noise, taking a pair of early leads. A pair of Butler home runs made the game 1-0 (top of the first) and 4-2 (top of the second) before the Bruins took a lead in the third that held until the game's conclusion. Bailey Murray allowed two hits in two innings of work while Kynlee Griffith struck out one in one scoreless inning of work.
SLUGGERS:
Across the opening weekend of play, there were two Oregon State players with a slugging percentage north of 1.000: Butler and Paige Bambarger. Bambarger, who started two of four appearances, tallied four hits which included a double and home run for an exactly 1.000 slugging percentage, while Butler's four home runs helped fuel a 1.125 slugging percentage.
MULTI-HIT MAGIC:
One or more Beavers had multi-hit games in every single game across last weekend's action. Against Utah Tech, there were three: Bambarger (2-4), Howey (2-4) and Jada Lewis (2-4), while Howey's 2-3 day was the lone multi-hit performance in OSU's first matchup against Long Beach State. Lewis was 2-4 in the Beavers' 4-0 win over UCSB while Butler hit a pair of home runs to go 2-3 against UCLA; Bambarger and Tristian Thompson both finished 2-3 in the weekend finale against Long Beach State.
NA NA NA, NA NA NA:
Highlight reel plays defensively came about early and often in SoCal last weekend. Headlined by Lici Campbell's diving play on the hot corner at third to catch a line drive by UCSB, the combination of Lewis - Butler - Madison Weir turned a ball at the wall in center field into a tag at home plate to maintain a 3-0 lead against the Gauchos.
In the Beavers' second matchup against LBSU, Alliyah Rodriguez made a pair of diving catches at short, one of which also included a throw to first that caught the runner for a double play, while Lewis had an impressive sliding catch in left field.
EARLY AND OFTEN:
Through five games played, OSU scored first five times, predominantly via the long ball. Home runs against Utah Tech and Long Beach State on day one opened the scoring, while an RBI double in the first inning marked the game's first run against UCSB. Another home run led it off in Saturday's matchup with UCLA before yet another long ball off the bat of Thompson put the Beavers up 1-0 in Sunday's game against LBSU.
FIGURING IT OUT:
With a long, 50-plus game season schedule, one might think that a staff has time to figure out which lineups play best together. Oregon State's coaches wasted no time in tinkering, however, as there were five different lineups across five different games. Though some athletes played in similar positions and hit in similar spots, Butler (second base) and Howey (right field) were the only athletes to play all five games in the same position. Lewis hit out of the leadoff spot four of five games and Butler was in the two spot four times out of five, but nobody hit from the same spot in the lineup during all five games.
YEAR 14:
Head Coach Laura Berg is now in year 14 leading Beaver softball in 2026, the second longest tenured head coach in program history. Only Kirk Walker (1995-2012; 18 seasons) has spent more time at the helm of the program. Of the eight head coaches in program history, Berg ranks second behind Walker for career victories, while her conference winning percentage is the top mark.
BACK THE PAC:
After two seasons as affiliate members of the WCC, the Beavers will return to the Pac-12 following the 2026 season. Along with Washington State, the Beavs will resume Pac-12 play with the new members of the conference: Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State, Texas State and Utah State. New members will officially join July 1, 2026.
