HISTORY:
Oregon State will face six teams it has met before at this week's Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, including a Long Beach State team that it has already faced multiple times this season. In fact, entering this week's games, OSU holds a winning record in the all-time series against five of its opponents, and won the last matchup against each of the six teams on the schedule.
SCORING:
Through two weekends of play, the Beaver offense has shown improvements from the 2025 season. Across 47 games last year, OSU scored 203 runs, an average of 4.32 per contest. Through 10 games in 2026, however, the Beavers have put up 49 total runs, an average of 4.9 per contest, which signifies a 13% increase. Additionally, OSU has scored at least four runs in eight of 10 games, scoring eight or more on two occasions.
FIVER:
As part of that explosive offense, OSU run ruled a team for the first time in 2026 over the weekend, taking down the North Dakota Fighting Hawks in five innings. With two runs in the second inning, three in the third and three in the fourth, Bailey Murray ended the game in the fifth to complete an 8-0 win. Tristian Thompson was 2-3 with a three-run home run and Nikki Donahue had a two-run double, while Jaeya Butler was 2-3 with a double.
FIRST OF MANY:
Murray got the start against UND and earned her first career victory, tossing five shutout innings and allowing just two hits. Through eight appearances this season, Murray ranks top-10 in the conference with a team-leading 2.27 ERA across 12.1 innings of work, also holding the top mark in the conference for saves with two. A true freshman from Redondo Beach, Calif., Murray is part of an OSU rotation that has seen three freshmen combine to pitch 64.1 of 65.1 total innings this season.
JUST THE START:
Butler's tremendous start to the season continued in San Diego, as the Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., native extended her hitting streak to 10 games. Across 35 total at-bats, Butler is hitting .457 with seven home runs, 12 RBI and is slugging 1.171. She's in a two-way tie for fourth in the country for home run total, one of just five players this season to hit seven or more through the first two weekends of play and has already tied her season total from 2025.
OSU's single season record for home runs is 17, set by Frankie Hammoude in 2021.
SO LONG:
Though Butler has been the tip of the spear for OSU's powerful lineup, there are several other players on the roster have helped the Beavers to a WCC-leading 15 home runs this season. Tristian Thompson, who led the team with 10 homers last year, is now at three, and Morgan Howey has two; Paige Bambarger, Jada Lewis and Madison Weir all have one. The team hit 36 home runs in 2025 - an average of less than one per game - but so far in 2026, is averaging 1.5 per contest and hit four out of the park on Sunday against San Diego State.
STANDOUT FRESHMAN:
Mya Harrison burst on the scene at the Campbell Cartier Classic, hitting .364 across 11 total plate appearances. Of her four hits, two were triples, which included a game-changing, bases loaded three-bagger that turned an 0-2 deficit into a 3-2 advantage against SDSU. A true freshman from Bakersfield, Calif., Harrison started all five games in center field and maintained a perfect fielding percentage across 13 total chances.
YEAR 14:
Head Coach Laura Berg is now in year 14 leading Beaver softball in 2026, the second longest tenured head coach in program history. Only Kirk Walker (1995-2012; 18 seasons) has spent more time at the helm of the program. Of the eight head coaches in program history, Berg ranks second behind Walker for career victories, while her conference winning percentage is the top mark.
BACK THE PAC:
After two seasons as affiliate members of the WCC, the Beavers will return to the Pac-12 following the 2026 season. Though Washington State and Gonzaga don't have softball programs, the Beavs will resume Pac-12 play with Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State, Texas State and Utah State. New members will officially join July 1, 2026.
