Oregon State Falls in Extras, Responds to Defeat Nevada
February 19, 2026 | Softball
CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – Oregon State softball opened the 2026 Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic with a pair of exciting games, falling in extra innings to California Baptist before defeating the Nevada Wolfpack, 4-2.
Game one: California Baptist 4, Oregon State 3 (final/eight innings)
Bailey Murray entered the game with one out in the first inning after CBU scored three early runs, ending the inning with a strikeout and going on to have one of her strongest showings as a Beaver. The Redondo Beach, Calif., native went the rest of the way, allowing just two hits and one unearned run across 7.1 innings of work.
With four strikeouts, the lone run Murray allowed came in the eighth inning when a runner, placed at second to start the inning, scored on an RBI double to put CBU ahead.
Jaeya Butler hit a solo shot to right center in her first at-bat and finished the game 2-4 with two RBI, adding an RBI single in the fifth. Tristian Thompson followed that Butler single with an RBI single of her own, tying the game at three. Camrynn Gordon hit a triple to finish 2-2 while Morgan Howey (1-4), Lici Campbell (1-3), Nikki Donahue (1-4) and Tessa Hogue (1-3) all helped the Beavs to a 9-8 advantage in total hits.
Oregon State did put runners into scoring position with the game on the line as Howey, who started the eighth inning standing at second base, advanced to third on a Campbell base hit, but the Beavs weren't able to level and dropped game one.
Game two: Oregon State 4, Nevada 2
The Beavers went wire-to-wire against the Wolfpack to earn their first victory of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. Butler hit yet another home run in the first inning, a solo shot, and Madison Weir doubled the lead with an RBI double to score Thompson.
Butler finished 1-3 and helped score another run in the second inning when she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Weir's game two line finished at 2-4 with one RBI and one run scored. Jada Lewis was 0-2 with a pair of walks and Mya Harrison was 2-2 with one run scored.
Nevada broke the game open in the fifth, hitting a ball over the fence in center field to cut OSU's advantage down to 3-2, but Alliyah Rodriguez gave the Beavers a much-needed insurance run in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single to right. Rodriguez finished the game 2-3 with a stolen base, her first multi-hit game as a Beaver.
Amelia Streuber went 6.1 innings against the Wolfpack, allowing seven hits and two earned runs, striking out two, before Bailey Murray entered for the final two outs; Murray drew a foul out before striking out the game's final batter to secure win number five on the season for Oregon State.
Beaver softball will play four more games at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, matching up with Hawaii on Friday, Feb. 20 (5:30 p.m. first pitch), Bethune Cookman (9:30 a.m.) and CSUN (12 p.m.) Saturday and closing the tournament with a 9 a.m. game against Long Beach State on Sunday.
