Donahue's 4 RBI Lift Beavers in Friday Slugfest
February 28, 2025 | Softball
PHOENIX – Led by Nicole Donahue's four runs batted in, the Oregon State softball team took a thrilling 12-10 win over Utah State on Friday,
Oregon State (7-9) faced four deficits on the afternoon, trailing by as many as three on two instances before taking one last lead in the sixth – at 12-10 – to put the Aggies away.
Entering the Beavers' sixth deadlocked at 10, Jaeya Butler used a single to push Justice Flores – running for Lici Campbell – to third, ready to capitalize. Facing a 1-2 count, Donahue connected on one and pushed it to deep right center to drive home the game-winning runs.
Oregon State's offense responded from the jump, the Beavers plated six after the Aggies crossed home three times in the first. In the six-run first, Donahue drove in two on a single to give the Beavers their first lead of the day, at 4-3.
Before fully coming back, Samantha Gutierrez used a two-run home run in the fifth to bring the Beavers within a score at 10-9.
The Beavers put up 10 hits, including two apiece from Donahue and Morgan Howey. With her first inning single, Howey extended her hitting streak to six games. In addition to Gutierrez, five other Oregon State student-athletes contributed a hit to the offensive effort.
Six – Donahue, Gutierrez, Butler, Ella Dardis, Howey and Rylei Trujillo – all drove in at least one run while three – Campbell, Donahue and Trujillo – all recorded a double.
Ellie Garcia (4-3) picked up the win after 6.0 innings' worth of relief work. The Chino, Calif., product fanned six but allowed three Aggies to cross the plate on five hits and three walks. Logan Hulon threw an inning and gave up seven runs on three hits and three walks.
Oregon State will continue play in the ASU/GCU Invitational with a game against Seattle U and host Grand Canyon tomorrow. The first game – against the Redhawks – is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. PT and the second is slated for 5:30 p.m. PT and can be seen on ESPN+.
