Late Offense Secures Split With San Diego

SAN DIEGO – The Oregon State softball team picked back up conference competition with a road doubleheader against San Diego and split the pair.
Oregon State closes the day with their record at 18-18 and 1-3 in league play.
Game 1: San Diego 5, OSU 1
San Diego jumped out in front – scoring twice in the second inning – and didn't look back as the Toreros downed the Beavs in the first game of the day. Despite the Beavers' run in the third off Nicole Donahue's RBI sacrifice fly, the Toreros used a three-run homer to pad their lead in the sixth to make it 5-1.
Logan Hulon (9-11) was tagged with the loss after giving up all five runs – three being earned – in 6.0 innings tossed. She struck out five but allowed six hits.
With a pair of hits, Morgan Howey paced the offense while Donahue had the credit for the run batted in.
Game 2: OSU 4, San Diego 0
Held out of the hit column for over four innings, the Beavers responded in a big way in the sixth, slapping three hits and one being a three-run home run by Tristian Thompson. An inning later, Jaeya Butler used a homer on the first pitch of the frame to add some insurance to make it 4-0.
Ellie Garcia and the Beaver defense held the Toreros at bay in the contest. The Toreros left 10 runners on base in the nightcap, including loading the bases in the sixth. Garcia (9-7) was credited with the win after tossing the game's entirety. She recorded eight strikeouts but surrendered six hits and issued four walks.
Five different Beavers recorded a hit while Thompson (3) and Butler (1) were responsible for driving in the runs. Among the five to knock a hit, Lici Campbell and Jada Lewis had doubles.
Oregon State will wrap up the conference series against the Toreros tomorrow with a 1 p.m. first pitch. The game will be available on ESPN+.
