Oregon State Falls Twice in Long Beach Opener
February 14, 2025 | Softball
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Oregon State softball team fell twice to open the Wilson Tournament on Friday in Long Beach. In both games, the Beavers (3-4) had late comeback attempts fall short.
Game 1: California 3, Oregon State 1
The Golden Bears used a pair of seventh-inning runs to secure a 3-1 win over the Beavers on Friday afternoon.
Following four quiet innings from both sides, California struck first off an unearned run by a Logan Hulon throwing miscue in the fifth before another scoreless six all around. Padding their lead in the seventh, the Golden Bears used another two with just one out to stretch their lead to three.
Oregon State threatened in the seventh with bases loaded but Ella Dardis' RBI single – which drove home Morgan Howey – was all they could scratch across.
Paige Bambarger and Morgan Howey joined Dardis in the hit column, which led the Beaver offense.
Logan Hulon (2-3) was tagged with the loss after allowing all three Cal runs. The graduate student struck out six but allowed eight hits and walked one.
Game 2: Iowa State 5, Oregon State 1
In the second game of the afternoon, the Beavers could not complete a late-inning comeback, falling 5-1 to Iowa State. Nikki Donahue's double in the seventh to right center pushed Isabella Valdez across the plate to make it 5-1.
In the ensuing at-bat, Lici Campbell was retired by strikeout to end the Beavs' rally attempt – and the game.
Howey added two more hits in this game to add to her ledger. She was joined in the hit column by Bambarger, Campbell and Donahue, who each had one.
Ellie Garcia (1-1) was charged with the loss after giving up four runs on five hits in 5.0 complete. The senior struck out three but gave up five hits and yielded three walks. Appearing in the final 2.0, Hulon allowed the final Cyclone run on two hits but fanned a pair.
The Beavers will close play in Long Beach tomorrow against Southern Utah. Action is set for 9 a.m. from the LBSU Softball Complex.
