Butler's 3 RBI Push Beavers Past Sun Devils
March 02, 2025 | Softball
TEMPE, Ariz. – Forced to extra softball after losing a one-run lead in the seventh inning, Oregon State used three in the eighth to take the weekend finale, 6-3, at Arizona State on Sunday afternoon.
With the game deadlocked at 3 following regulation, the Beavers' bats got hot again at the right time. In just two swings of the bat, Oregon State (9-10) turned it back in their favor with three runs to take the win. Placed onto scoring position at second to open the frame, Morgan Howey quickly dashed home on Samantha Gutierrez's double to left before Jaeya Butler's no-doubt home run put it out of reach at 6-3.

Logan Hulon (3-7) kept the Sun Devils off the bases one final time in the eighth after a 1-2-3 inning. The graduate student tossed all 8.0 frames where she fanned a pair but was responsible for all of the ASU runs.
Offensively, the Beavers churned eight hits and worked four walks off the Arizona State arms. A trio – Paige Bambarger, Gutierrez and Jada Lewis – each had two hits to lead Oregon State. In the third inning, Bambarger hit her first collegiate home run to tie the game at one, following an early lead by the Sun Devils. Butler led the team in runs batted in with three, while Bambarger had a pair and Gutierrez registered one.

The Beavers put up three between the third and fourth innings. In addition to Bambarger's homer in the third, she drove in another on a single and Butler registered a RBI on a sacrifice fly.
Arizona State tied the game in the late stages of the seventh – with two outs – to force the extra inning. With a pair of Sun Devils on base, a single to right put the game into a 3-3 deadlock.
Oregon State will resume action next week in the Jane Sanders Classic, hosted by Oregon in Eugene with action starting Friday. The Beavers will meet Florida State at 3:30 p.m. with it streaming on B1G+.
