Beaver Bats Power Portland State Sweep
April 09, 2025 | Softball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – An offensive explosion powered Oregon State to a doubleheader sweep of Portland State on Wednesday, with wins by 11-1 and 9-2 at Kelly Field.
The Beavers (16-16) put up a combined 20 runs on 22 hits and slugged a total of three home runs on the day.
Game 1: OSU 11, PSU 1 (5)
Oregon State put up runs early and often for the run-rule win, highlighted by a six-run fourth to put out of the Vikings' reach. The Beavers jumped on PSU with four in the first, coming off a Lici Campbell single to short that drove in a pair before Nicole Donahue pushed two more across to make it 4-0. Tristian Thompson's RBI single an inning later made it five with two in the books.
Following the visitors' sole score of the game, OSU broke it open with six in their fourth. Morgan Howey homered, Paige Bambarger knocked a triple with a Donahue RBI walk to secure the 10-run win.
Donahue had a game-high four RBI while Bambarger followed with three and Howey had two to pace the Beavers.
Logan Hulon (8-10) tossed all 5.0 in the outing and struck out seven to just three hits and a pair of walks.
Game 2: OSU 9, PSU 2
The Beavers' bats stayed hot in the second part of the doubleheader - especially late – in the seven-run win. Oregon State's offense used eight runs in late frames to secure the separation – and sweep – from the Vikings.
Entering the home half of the sixth up by just a pair (4-2) following a Viking home run, the Beavers' bats came alive one last time when they needed to the most. Oregon State put up five runs on five hits to break it open. After Tristian Thompson opened the scoring by driving in Ella Dardis, Samantha Gutierrez knocked a three-run home run in the ensuing plate appearance to make it 8-2. For good measure, Donahue followed it with a home run of her own as insurance to seal it at 9-2.
A trio of Beavers capped the twinbill with two-hit games: Dardis, Gutierrez and Jada Lewis.
Ellie Garcia (8-6) earned the win after tossing the game's full 7.0. The senior struck out nine but allowed three hits and issued four walks.
Oregon State will wind down the homestand this coming Monday, April 14, against Montana. First pitch against the Griz is slated for 11 a.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.
