February 08, 2025 | Softball
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Tristian Thompson drove in 10 runs across two wins for the Oregon State softball team on Saturday. The Beavers (3-1) defeated Ball State in a five-inning affair before dispatching the hosts, Cal Poly, in the late afternoon game.
Game 1: Oregon State 15, Ball State 7 (F/5)
Facing a 7-3 deficit entering the bottom of the third, the Oregon State bats came alive for 12 unanswered runs to defeat the Cardinals by the eight-run margin. The Beavers put up six runs apiece in the fourth and fifth to pile the offense.

In the outburst, Thompson had a team-best five RBI, which was powered by her three-run homer in the fourth during a frame that saw nine Beavers make a plate appearance. Holding the nine-run cushion, the Beavers scored six more to close it early. Thompson added another two RBI to her ledger, with a single that brought home Jaeya Butler and Lici Campbell. Rylei Trujillo's single to third sealed the win as she drove in Isabella Valdez for the final run.
Appearing in relief of Ellie Garcia, Logan Hulon (1-1) picked up the win after 2.1 frames of work. The graduate student fanned three and allowed just two hits. Garcia lasted 2.2 innings and gave up all seven Cardinal run (five earned) on three hits and a walk.
Game 2: Oregon State 15, Cal Poly 6
Launching her second homer of the day – a grand slam – Thompson put up another five RBI to pace the Beavers to a 15-6 win over Cal Poly in the second contest of the day.
The Beaver bats stayed hot from game one as the offense put up multiple four-inning frames before plating three in the seventh to seal it. Oregon State built a lead as high as six from the Thompson grand slam and Paige Bambarger's two-RBI triple before the Mustangs put up four of their own to make it 8-6 after five.

Hits from Nicole Donahue and Bambarger in the sixth drove in four to break the game open at 12-6. Doubles in the final frame from Morgan Howey and Madison Weir drove in the final runs to make the final line 15-6.
Hulon (2-1) picked up her second win of the day following five strikeouts but allowed all six Mustang runs (five earned) on eight hits and a walk in 5.0 frames. Completing the win, Garcia entered for the final 2.0 innings and never let a Mustang reach base.
For the first time since the 2015 season, a Laura Berg-led squad totaled 30 runs across the two games played. That Beavers team plated 16 and 14 runs, respectively, in a pair of wins in Fresno, Calif.
The Beavers will close the Mustang Classic tomorrow with a final matchup against Cal Poly. Action is set for 11 a.m.
